A bit of history

Mannucci Droandi stems from farming and winemaking traditions of two families, Mannucci, small landowners in Valdarno since the early nineteenth Century and the Droandi, from the XVIII ° farmers in Carmignano and then in San Giustino Valdarno. It is currently administered by the Società Agricola Nuova Agricoltura S.r.l. , with CEO Maria Grazia Mammuccini with whom in turn comes from an old family of farmers.

Conducted since 2000 with certified organic methods, this choice, along with the enhancement of native vines, is the fundamental basis of our work. The goal is to contribute to environmental protection, the mitigation of climate change and at the same time offer products capable of representing the identity of our country, combining local traditions with innovation, with the intention to continue in the best way as previous generations have been able to build.

In charge of the vineyards and the cellar is Roberto Giulio Droandi.

The company

Currently it consists of two main bodies. The first, the farm Campolucci (Latin for “field of the sacred forest”), consists of a large farmhouse (already present in the Grand Ducal Catasti, it is still the business center and is home to the winery), by vineyards and olive groves specialized. Campolucci is located on the eastern slopes of the Monti del Chianti (Chianti district, sub-zone of Colli Arezzo) at an altitude of 250 meters above sea level, on top of a hill facing south overlooking the ancient fortified town of Caposelvi, near Mercatale Valdarno (City of Montevarchi, Province of Arezzo).

The second body is the Ceppeto farm, made up of vineyards and olive groves planted around a large square stone farmhouse (built in the eighteenth century on the ruins of an ancient hermitage). E ‘also located on the East side of the Monti del Chianti (Chianti Classico area) and more precisely on the slope South (400 m.s.l.m.) of the hill dominated by the castle of Starda (City of Gaiole in Chianti, Province of Siena).

The vineyards and the cellar

The grapes are vinified in the company and the wine sold directly from the winery or in farmers’ markets and distributed in Italy and abroad. In the vineyards overlooking the Sangiovese, both the old and to new plants and, in the cellar, respect for tradition is accompanied by the necessary attention that today we take for acquired in order to obtain the best quality.

The experimental vineyard

Consistent with the choice to conserve biodiversity, for some time the company cooperates with the Research Unit for Viticulture in Arezzo, thanks to the creation of an experimental vineyard where old vines, once common in the area and now at risk of extinction were now re-introduced. With the grapes of those old varieties were carried microvinifications which offered promising signs: thus, some of the most interesting varieties such as Foglia Tonda, Barsaglina, or Pugnitello were reproduced and planted in quantities in our vineyards, to enrich and characterize the grapes and vinified in purity, to give us back the opportunity to try now forgotten sensations.

The olive trees and the oil

In the six hectares of olive groves of Ceppeto farm, planted mostly on ancient terraces supported by “dry” stone walls, we produce our oil Chianti Classico Extra-Virgin Olive D.o.p. (Protected Designation of Origin), the Moraiolo, Frantoio, Leccino and other traditional olives. Entirely organically farmed, early manual picking and cold pressing within a few hours, ensures the production of an excellent oil, golden yellow with bright green hues, intensely fragrant with an important body and unmistakably fruity taste.
